I just now noticed this statue of #stfrancis after 5 years in Taylor, and I’m guessing it’s because I’m reading a book on his life/philosophy and that of his counterpart #stclareofassisi .
I decided to take a photo of the statue on this #hintofspring -like morning, and wondered how Rosie would interact with it. As she has an odd reverence for a couple of local churches (this one and the Presbyterian Church one street over), I figured that she’d sit and ponder, as per usual.
Nope. I was a bit surprised (and momentarily “knee-jerk horrified”) when she jumped up, but then I wasn’t. I think that not only would St. Francis have been ok with this, but may have encouraged it. I’m reading “The Universe Has Your Back” by Gabrielle Bernstein. Thankyou @lolimc for the gift. I loved the prayer she added by Saint Francis of Assisi: “Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace. That where there is hatred, I may bring love. That where there is wrong, I may bring the spirit of forgiveness. That where there is discord, I may bring harmony. That where there is error, I may bring truth. That where there is doubt, I may bring faith. That where there is despair, I may bring hope. That where there are shadows, I may bring light. That where there is sadness, I may bring joy. Lord, grant that I may seek rather to comfort, than to be comforted. To understand, than to be understood. To love, than be loved. For it is by self-forgetting that one finds. It is by forgiving that one is forgiven. It is by dying that one awakens to Eternal life.” Not sure what I think of the last line, but everything before it I absolutely love. It really helps me not be so self centered and focused on myself. I think I’ll print it and hang it up in my house.
