Hydnellum peckii has many common names including strawberries and cream, bleeding tooth fungus, and Devil’s tooth. When young, H. peckii has a pale velvety top and appears to bleed from its pores. The “blood” has yet to be identified, however scientists found that extracts from the fungus contain the chemical compound atromentin, which has anti-bacterial and anti-coagulant properties. H. peckii can be found in Europe and North America’s Pacific Northwest and despite its appearance, it’s nontoxic but inedible. Hydnellum pekii is a mycorrhizal fungus meaning it has a mutually beneficial relationship with the roots of certain trees. The fungus receives fixed carbon from the host tree in exchange for the fungus facilitating the tree’s absorption of minerals.

The case of the missing slide boards 🔎
Today one of my colleagues and I sorted through over 7 years worth of slides in the fridge. We threw away hundreds of slides, and ended up with a whole draw-full of missing slide boards
We only had 3 left in flotation, so we were pretty desperate, hence why our supervisor sent us off as a hunting party
Good news is that I have one more fridge to go through tomorrow...
Hope you all got a chance to see the amazing lunar eclipse last night! 🌙 Fun sciencey fact, the reason the moon was red during the eclipse (unlike in my sketch, whoops) is that some light from the sun passes through the earth’s atmosphere & reflects off the moon, even when the earth’s shadow covers most it. The atmosphere filters out cool colors (violet, blues), just like during a sunset when the sun looks redder ☀️

Albert Einstein said “If the bee disappeared off the face of the Earth, man would only have four years left to live.” Usually we know bees are two type. But according to Karl Von Frisch, bees are three types.
1.Female who give births and stay in the chuck. They don't collect honey. They are called queen bees.
2.Male bees who helps the female in procreate. And stay in the chuck. They also don't collect honey. They are called king bees.
