I have always loved #colorful#straightpins . I don't know why, but even when I was a little girl and Mom was the person #sewing , I thought the #pins with the colored heads where the most prized. I still do. Mom rarely bought them. They were more expensive back in the day, and why would you waste that extra money when a regular straight pin would work the same?
Well, when I began to #sew on my own (thanks Mom, for passing that on) and making almost all my clothes by the age of 16, I would save my money and buy one package of the pretty pins. Of course, I didn't use them since mom had a ton of the standard head pins. No, no.... I saved them. I admired them. Yes, I lost them by the time I left the house and got my first apartment, but then I also didn't own a #sewingmachine and pretty much stopped sewing, with the exception of a few #garments I made at Mom's house (I'm talking to you, skinny blue velvet dresses STILL hanging in my closet). Why else did I stop? Because store bought clothes were much better and more posh than #handmade clothes (or #homemade as we used to say, back in the day). Oh, those days of my youth when my sense of self-worth was tied to a label in my clothes. I mean really.... What the fuck was I thinking? Everyone knows your sense of self-worth should be tied to the car you drive, the people you know and blow, and the neighborhood you live in. Good. Gawd. Gerdy. Yeah, I know.... I had issues.... And still have issues, but the issues have changed.... Sort of. And my best defense.... it was the 80's! Yeah, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
When I inherited my grandmother's sewing machine and moved on to making home decor items instead of #clothing , I collected more of the special colorful headed pins. I bought them exclusively. I still have many of them from that time. Well, the ones that didn't fall on the floor and end up in my foot.... But I digress. I also learned along the way that those smaller standard head pins are better in many ways. They work better for installing a #zipper and really close seams as well as many other uses.
