Springbank Claret Wood 2010 // 9360 bottles at 54.4% this @springbank1828 is a classic. So often with wine cask finish (or full maturation) the tannins take over and aren’t well integrated. This Whisky definitely benefits from the 3 years in claret casks after 9 years in bourbon giving lovely red wine sweetness and soft tannins. •
Nose: Honey, heather, glue, caramel. •
Palate: Vines, dust, cream, slight peat, wet stones. •
Finish: Sweet, red wine depth, gentle cream. •
I’m a big fan of Springbank whisky. The Springbank 10YO is an one of my favourite whisky. It was very interesting to taste old Springbank. And it’s Springbank 12YO from 70th.
The colour is amber. The nose is very sweet and powerful with notes of grilled vegetables, apple jam, oak, butterscotch, vanilla ice-cream, plums, light naphthalene and red pepper. The palate is sweet with notes of naphthalene, plums wine, vanilla ice-cream, oak and old furniture varnish. The finish is long, sweet and dry with plums, spices, apple and plum jam, grass and old furniture varnish. This Springbank is closed to be perfect! It has very good balance and very unique taste. I like it very much! I gave 94 points! 🔥🔥🔥👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

WHISKY FACT WEDNESDAY -
A "Shot" of Whisky
Having a shot? Of course you are - but who was the first to have one? The word itself goes back a long long time and no one can quite agree on where it started being used in reference to a measure of alcohol but herein follows one possible explanation.
Imagine you're a cattle driver in the Old West, the year is 1850 and your throat is parched from long days on the dusty trail.
You need something to quench your powerful thirst but alas, you don't get paid til the job is done, 2 weeks from now.
Even still, you have your trusty shotgun slung over your shoulder and you've come across the only town within a days ride. You saunter into the drinking hole, bat wing doors swinging shut behind you and slam a shell down on the bar. "One shot of whisky barkeep, if you please"
Bullets in those days cost about 12 cents, the same as a measure of whisky. Barter was more common in those days so it's certainly not out of the question that the term became interchangeable between the buckshot used in a trail-hand's shotgun and the whisky they traded for.
Of course, you'll have to take this with a grain of salt or two, stories from the Old West tend to get stretched beyond belief more often than not.
Old Pulteney has revamped its core range. Instead of the 17YO and 21YO, there’s now a 15YO and 18YO. And an NAS called Huddart.
12YO (40% ABV): Still the same 12YO as before, light, fruity, honeyish and with some nice brininess.
Huddart (46% ABV): Creamy and oily at first with hints of smoke and spice. Not bad, interesting dram.
15YO (46% ABV): The most different of the 4: the viscosity is quite rich, fruity, honey notes and also distinct spicy notes.
18YO (46% ABV): My favourite of the 4 - nice delicate fruitiness but with a tinge of spice and a sweet undertone balanced with some brininess at the end.

Whoa the colour!!! Thanks @felixkhoendarto
For sharing this.
The nose is classic sherry, lots of raisins, plums, but is it weird for me to say it smelled 'cooling'? Like it's refreshing and not thick gooey sherry kind of nose, kind of like if you take a fresh black cherry out of the fridge and bite on it sort of sensation. Citrus zest? I need to work on my vocabulary.
Palate is a nice balance of spices, raisins, dark fruits, orange peels. Nicely coats the mouth, finishes with a medium length spice, oak and berries appear
Jura.
Something about the color black... It exudes elegance and class.
I used to own couple black cars until I got tired of washing them constantly. 😂
This bottle was wrapped in a silver foil which I haven't seen in other Mac's. And when I unwrapped it, ooooh, that black bottle.😍 And it carried some heft. Size is between the regular releases and the rare cask.
At 40% abv, I was worried it would taste watered down. Color was a little light, too.
This was one of the rare times where I actually nosed chocolate. And there was the usual orange, dried fruits and honey. Palate and finish confirmed those flavors. Predominantly matured in "sherry seasoned" casks but not too sweet. Nice medium long finish.
Yes it did taste and feel a tiny bit light. It would have been better imo if it weren't watered down to 40%

Thanks for the assist, brother👊🥃

Founded in 1798 and still the islands only distillery, Tobermory Distillery produced this limited edition whisky, matured for 15 years using Master Blender Ian MacMillan’s dual-location-maturation; first transferring the spirit into Gonzalez Byass Oloroso Sherry casks (yum) and then moving the casks from the mainland back to the island for its final year, where it absorbs the ocean mist of the isle. Un-chillfiltered, notes of beautiful sherry, vanilla, light oak, truly a splendid and now rare bottle. You can’t help but smile when pouring a dram of this one. #whiskey#whisky#singlemalts#singlemalt#tobermory#tobermory15#whiskyaustralia#whiskeyaustralia#whiskyporn#scotchwhisky#scotchwhiskey
