  • Sony a6400 - Seems like opinions on this camera is changing and I'm glad! It's one of those things where you have to use it to believe it! It is so much more than an a6300 upgrade. For one, the AutoFocus is massively improved! Real Time Eye AF just made nailing eye focus THAT much easier. And the video side has major improvements as well! Way higher heat tolerance, longer recording, better colors, HLG, and SLOG3 starting at ISO 500! Watch my review to see this camera in action via the link in my bio! Let me know what you think. Best 4K Mirrorless Camera of 2019?

  • Underwater housings... The expensive alternative to using a GoPro. 😜 .
.
I get a lot of questions about this housing (and underwater housings in general) so I thought I’d make a post to share my thoughts. This is the Sony a6xxx Salty housing by @seafrogs.com.hk with their wide angle dome port attachment. If you don’t want to read the longer review below, here’s the TL:DR. It’s a good quality full-function housing that I would recommend to a friend. Also, this is an honest review and I actually paid for my housing. :)

It seems the normal progression of acquiring gear is this: purchase something cheap, realize you want better than ‘cheap’, purchase something expensive. If you want to get into underwater photography and videography, I’d recommend saving $100 on the cheap stuff and skip to buying this. For around $400 (for the Sony a6xxx series) you can get a legit underwater housing! Compare that to the more common $1000+ starting price for brands like Ikan, Aquatica, and Nauticam. Admittedly, once you add the dome port the price increases by a few hundred, but it’s still more affordable than comparable housings.

Does it leak? No. Do I trust it? Yes. How deep have you taken it? About 20 feet. (Just running through the FAQ). What’s the worst thing about it? It weighs a lot. If you’re wondering what the “x” means with “Sony a6xxx”, it means this housing could work for the Sony a6000, a6300 or a6500. Since I use both the a6300 and a6500 cameras, I can swap between the two cameras in the same housing. Pretty nifty, eh? .

Last summer I took this on a backpacking trip to Michigan’s Pictured Rocks shoreline. I strapped it to the outside of my backpack for a few days, and when the trip was over a few of the buttons were loose. I contacted SeaFrogs and they promptly sent replacement clips so I could fix the housing myself. I started using a neoprene protective cover, and I have not had the issue since. In the end, I’m glad it happened because now I know the folks at SeaFrogs are available to help and are quick to respond.

Does anyone else have this housing? Have you had the same results?
