  • Approaching #nanowrimo a bit different... Basically the goal is to work on my story (comic/graphic novel) every day in November. The focus will be on writing, but I also got a lot of characters that still need concept art. So today, getting the basic story for different issues (chapters), and hero/villain teams down on index cards just to have something more tangible yet fluid to play around with. The plan is 27 issues/chapters, 12 pages each! And for NaNoWriMo, the goal is to have at least some version of the story complete by the end of the month. #nanowrimo2018 #indexcards #comics #graphicnovels #storynotes

  • Day 22 of #fantasywipdecember Old Notes or Drafts

I used this zombie notebook to write down ideas for developing my characters before I started writing the current version of “The Firebirds.” Most of it is silly, just me thinking on paper. But I did come across one good line regarding Tanaris: “Emphasize her strength, but also the fact that her strength is misplaced, and as such, it cannot save her.” #writing #ilovewriting #storynotes #writersofinstagram

  • If your mystery is losing steam, an easy fix is to turn your whodunit into a howdunit at the midpoint of the story. I personally love this method because it changes your protagonist's STRATEGY without affecting their ultimate GOAL. If you've ever watched a newly-discovered culprit say "That's right, I did it! But you'll never be able to prove it!" that's a classic shift from whodunit to howdunit. No more red herrings or dead ends. Just an effortless transition in purpose that seriously ramps up the energy for your second half!

  • [ENG] Today we want to share with all of you a little more about what's behind the Guzbourine's pages. Usually, you can see only the end final but, how is the "backstage"? Let's meet "The Madness Notebook", Chris' green-velvet-cover notebook, where the story begins. This notes started very orderly but somehow, right now it's a total mess, full of tiny footnotes and asterisk, and "continues on the 'x' page"; however, she finds herself on this chaotic system. And, in adition, say that she can't write with normal leads here, she always use colors, but Aurel's unable to use her lead-pencils.
.

  • In the process of moving my story notes from index cards and notebooks into Scrivener so that it's easier to keep track of everything.
.
The Gospel of Wolves follows four characters, but is setting up several other books in the background and subplots. .

  • "Restroom Finds" was first a rough scene/idea I'd jotted down into a notebook. I figured I'd write an apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic novel at some point, and I would scribble down any cool ideas to collect together. I assumed that when I wrote the novel, I'd have these scenes/characters in my arsenal. Then I saw a submission call one day and decided to turn the "Restroom Finds" idea into a piece of flash fiction.
-
I've been asked a few times if I would turn "Restroom Finds" into something longer. I definitely think it could be expanded, especially as I feel the little girl is an interesting character. There would be lots to explore: What happened to the world? What's the girl's story? Where does she go next? Whether I actually sit down and continue the journey will depend on how the muse feels.

  • I think the most interesting note about the story "Graves" (from The Sea Was a Fair Master) was that it wasn't included in the original manuscript I submitted. Had all things gone to the first plan, it would not have been in the collection. I didn't think dark fiction publishers would want both "Yara" and "Graves" in the same book. Luckily it lived to fight another day, as a few readers have mentioned it as one of their favorites from the collection.
-
"Graves" was one of the first stories I ever wrote. The first draft was actually a 4 - 6, 000 word short story. The majority of the "Graves" flash piece, as found in the collection, was sort of an epilogue in the initial draft. It never worked for me at the short story length. After rewrites and edits, I finally got it to the way it lives now.

  • Do you work on multiple manuscripts at once?
...
Good Morning, Starlings!! 🤗☀️
Today our question is over how many manuscripts we work on. These are a few of the manuscripts. My mind works in many different directions and I will only work on what I'm inspired by at the moment. Using this method. I have not given up on a good project yet.☺📝📁📚
...
Of course these are the only physical forms of the manuscripts. I only write notes on paper, but the manuscripts are typed and stored on my cloud. 👩‍💻☁️🌟
