  • ➡️One of the most fascinating aspects of medical research has always been the “placebo effect.” Basically, you can tell someone they are taking a drug that will have a certain effect on them, give them a sugar pill that does nothing, and their brains will still create the effects of the fake drug. Mind over matter in real life. The effects of the placebo effect were first documented by Henry Knowles Beecher when he witnessed soldiers react to a saline solution that he told them was a painkiller.
➡️So if we can trick our brains into not feeling pain because we think we’ve been given a painkiller, how else can we use the placebo effect to our advantage? Researchers Christina Draganich and Kristi Erdal from Colorado College have figured out that the placebo effect can be used into tricking our brains thinking that we’ve gotten more sleep than we have, and therefore, will perform better than if we’d gotten less sleep.✅The participants were randomly assigned to two groups.One group were informed that their deep, or REM, sleep had been above average the night before.The other group were told their REM sleep from the night before had been below average.✅All participants were given a lecture then given a test.The participants who were informed that they had experienced below average sleep quality, tended to perform worse on the test, regardless of how well they originally felt they had slept. Those in the above average sleep quality condition performed significantly better on the test
🎯These findings support the hypothesis that mindset can influence cognitive states in both positive and negative directions, suggesting a means of controlling one’s health and cognition.”

  • Det er heldigvis de små ting i livet, der gør ham glad. I går blev han vildt glad fordi der ikke var noget brunt på toiletpapiret da han havde været på tønden 😳🙈.....🤣 Glæd dig over de små ting og husk at tørre numsen og vaske fingre når du har været på toilet! ❤️

- Natuurlijk ben jij die toegewijde moeder en wil je jouw bijdrage leveren aan de toch al krappe bezetting op school
- Natuurlijk neem jij de hockeytraining over als de trainer ziek is
- Natuurlijk help jij als leesmoeder de kinderen die dat nodig hebben
- Natuurlijk help jij de klas schoonmaken, ook al is jouw eigen huis harder toe aan een poetsbeurt.

Tijdens een burn-out voel je je schuldig omdat jij niet de actieve moeder bent die je wilt zijn. En nu moet je ook nog ‘nee’ zeggen op alles waar je voorheen ‘ja’ op had gezegd. 
Het lijstje naast de klas roept letterlijk om jouw naam. Maar nu is het tijd om NEE te zeggen.

- En nee te zeggen tegen die speelafspraak bij jou thuis.

  • We all have moments of overwhelm which can be triggered by both big and small issues. Whether it worrying about that upcoming work presentation, or struggling to get your child to put his shoes on. In that moment, your head can feel like it might explode or your thoughts are so hectic that you can't focus. 
Shift your focus for 3 minutes. 
Do a quick mindful sense check. 
Ground yourself in the moment.

You will feel calmer. 
Take 3 deep breaths, focusing on the sensation of the air entering and leaving your nose. 
Now focus fully on:

What can I hear? Consciously listen for the sounds you hadn't noticed.
(30 secs)
What can I smell? Around me, on me.
(30 secs)
What can I feel? Can you feel your feet in your shoes as you walk? Can you feel the texture of the floor under your shoes? Can you feel your finger tips? Can you feel the contact your body has to any surface its touching?
(30 Secs)
What can you taste? Does your mouth feel sweet, or bitter? Can you taste the coffee you just had? (30 secs)
What can you see? Look without judgement or a running commentary. Just see what is around you, nearby and then shift your perspective further away. (30 secs)

Your mind will drift off and get distracted by a thought. That's ok - just bring it back and continue.

Resilience is built from raising our awareness of moments of stress and finding ways to recover and reset. Give it ago.
