This is one of our rare impulse buys 🤪! We bought this at the opening for the second @tanteolgakoeln#zerowaste shop (unpaid, unsponsored ad/Werbung). Unlike before, shopping isn’t a big part of our routines anymore.
We used to buy most of our groceries on a whim on our way home, without knowing what was sitting in our fridge and pantry at home. This meant we ended up buying things we already had enough of at home, or ended up not getting things we actually needed. Which in turn meant we had to go to the store yet another time. So in the end we went to the store maybe 4 times a week just because we were unorganized and didn’t have a system 😅...
As I keep posting here, we now only buy fresh groceries (basically produce) once a week 🍎🥬, usually at the farmers market. We restock everything else only once every 4-8 weeks, a habit from back when we didn’t have access to bulk dry goods. Back then, it took us 2h to get to the next bulk store using public transportation 🚞🚌(we don’t have a car and don’t want one). So we always restocked when we had business in that area anyway, which was usually once every 4-8 weeks.
This system was a GAME CHANGER 😁! It took a few weeks to get used to it, but then It cut down our food waste to zero! Did you know that in most industrial countries, we throw away 20-25% of what we buy—on average!—even though it would have still been safe to eat?? Talk about wasteful and irresponsible, huh! #wastenotwantnot
We also quit (window) shopping, because we already had so much more than what we needed and wanted to focus on decluttering instead. So now we don’t have the habit to buy useless stuff anymore, and put the time it freed up into more meaningful things 💚!
I love how @hannahsplasticproject put it when we met in person in 2016 💕: “My impulse buys have become so much more affordable! Like, a broccoli 🥦 here or some carrots 🥕 there...” 🤣

Who else is a Green Bean Lover?
I seed beans a couple times during the summer. They are one of our favorites, and really are the easiest snacks! They are super easy to grow! These small bean plants were seeded 2 weeks before this picture was taken. I seeded them where I just harvested my potatoes. Crop rotation is a rule to live by in the garden! You can seed beans here in Wisconsin as late as mid August. Some years you could go later, because it depends on our first frost. But nobody knows when the first Frost will be, so play it safe by cutting off your seeding date around mid August, no later. Unless you have some type of cover to protect them of course! You can tell it’s late season in the garden if you look behind little Sayla, The onion tops have fallen, which means they are ready!
We have... IJSJES! 😍😋🍦 Come down and enjoy the sunshine at De Noordermarkt Kantine — and treat yourself (or your favourite little someone) to a delicious ice-cream or sorbet from our very own @deijsmakerij. Fijn weekend allemaal!

Look at how little she was 😭😍 I remember the first time she got to harvest something of our own to eat. I remember her memorizing all of the plants at 2 years old. I remember her eating things straight from the soil, often with soil still intact.
These are the things that are so good for our children.
Dirt and sunshine. Growing food and feeling the pride or sorrow when it comes harvest time. Running barefoot and care free.
I know many people don’t have the opportunity to grow as much food as we do or have as much space to run and play. But it really isn’t that much of an excuse.
Find a friend who has a farm or yard. Or get to know your farmers and ask them if you can come help and learn about the food they grow. Head to a park and do a “taste of the park” where you identify edible foods and taste them. Volunteer in a community garden, they are popping up all over the place. Plant a windowsill garden.
There are so many ways to get your children outside and involved in their food. And they will always be better off for it. Even if you don’t feel like it is much, it is always making an impact on them ❤
Feeling a bit lost for inspiration? We got you 💫 Already a month and a half into 2019 and we’ve been working super hard and have so many exciting things planned, which we really want to do all at once but occasionally you have to take a step back and appreciate that Rome wasn’t built in a day and be proud of how far you’ve come ✨ Patience and perseverance really are key, don’t over complicate your goals and as long as you keep moving forward, one step at a time, you will get there 💚 Have a lovely weekend beauts!

What do you think about brushes with replaceable heads? If available at the same price as regular dispoable brushes and with the possibility to buy the heads separately when you need to replace them, would you switch to these?
Tried out @motikamarkers GG5 for this sketch. Quite decent result but I'm going to use these more before forming an opinion.
