  • Self-Massage and Vitality
.
From ancient times to the present, Taoist Masters have been energetic and youthful, appearing and functioning at younger than their actual ages.
.
One source of their vitality has been the practice of using one’s internal energy, combined with self-massage, to strengthen and rejuvenate the sense organs (eyes, ears, nose, tongue teeth, skin) and the inner organs.
.
Energetic self-massage works by clearing blockages from the meridians, or energy channels, of the various senses and vital organs. The senses are connected with the organs which are believed to store and generate positive and negative emotions.
.
“By strengthening the senses, we help to control negative emotions. Senses are the first to receive the influences of the outside world, such as tension, anger and fear; and, in turn, these outside negative influences affect the organs and the nervous system. Strong senses will help to prevent an overload of outside influences that can negatively affect us.”
.

Hexagram 26. The Taming Power Of The Great. A difficult and a challenging time must be taken as an opportunity to express in the outer world our highest inner principles. It is just such challenges to our strength and character that enable us over time to embody and practice the strength of the I Ching. So use these tests as opportunities to purify your thoughts and actions. By holding to what is correct in the face of pressure, you gain the strength and peace of mind of the spiritual masters.
.
Fourth Line: It is futile to act out of strong emotions. Others will not be receptive. Still yourself and let the door open of its own accord.
.
Opposite hexagram 33. Retreat. Retreat is not the same thing as surrender, capitulation, or abandonment, which are desperate and unsatisfying measures. It is instead an acceptance and a choice: we calmly accept that the energies of the moment are against us, and we wisely choose to withdraw into the safety of stillness.

  • Il ritorno è il movimento del Tao.
L'accettazione è il suo metodo.
Tutto ciò che esiste nel cosmo viene dal Tao.
L'essere è nato dal non essere.

  • Did you know? Tai Chi isn’t another fad exercise going around. It has been practiced in China for at least 700 years, originally created by Taoist Monk, Zhang San Feng, as a martial art. .

  • Ive seen a lot of talk about a ketamine nasal spray that will likely receive FDA clearance as a treatment for depression. I went over the relevant literature and I want to share some of my thoughts.
.
On the positive side: This ketamine derivative seems like a viable acute intervention for suicidal thoughts and depression. The clinical studies showed substantial reductions in suicidal thoughts after only a few days. This is a huge advantage over SSRIs, which can take weeks or months to take effect. J&J's Ketamine nasal spray, if prescribed correctly, has the potential to save a lot of lives.
.
On the down side: I'm inherently skeptical about using dissociative drugs to address mental health conditions (which is why I also doubt the usefulness of Cannabis in clinical psychology). Dissociative drugs (and endogenous dissociative neurochemicals as well) inhibit memory processing. This acute effect is why people with PTSD sometimes experience amnesia, and why using Cannabis can be harmful to your memory. Acute dissociation, can lead to what's called "structural dissociation" which is when a lack of short-term memory processing creates a chronic dissociation between the different neurological systems that make up your personality.
.
In addition to my concern about this nasal spray leading to structural dissociation, I'm concerned about the response people may have to Ketamine's acute dissociation. Many people (particularly those that this drug is targeted at) engage in self-harming behaviors like cutting. Self-harm is closely related to dissociation, and is used as a coping mechanism to become "grounded." Cutting as a coping mechanism is associated with severe degradations in people's mental health, and can become very addictive. I'm worried that this ketamine intervention will cause an increase in self-harming behaviors.

  • Today marks the 15th day of the first lunar month, and also the end of #chinesenewyear celebrations! Phew 😅 so I learned that the snake 🐍, my Chinese zodiac sign, clashes with the "Tai Sui" of the EARTH pig year. Which means we have to go to temple, give offerings to the Tai Sui and ceremonially burn “money” 💸 to prevent anything bad from happening this 🐽 new year!

What is your chinese zodiac animal?! 🐍 #taoism

  • Live Fully - Fitness is Only A Tool
⠀
I will die one day. The Stoics and Taoist mystics knew it - so I reflect on this every morning.
⠀
Fitness isn't a lifestyle to me. It's a tool to help me be present. This strange pocket computer allows me to directly connect with other human brains. To me fitness allows me to build connection to other people. That's what I want at the end of my days.
⠀
But in my immediate life, eating good food, laughing, and having good memories is the whole point of being in shape. It's so I am not depressed, anxious, and can actually focus on what is going on.

  • So which would you rather have?🤔⠀
.⠀
.⠀
To finally accept that you are who you are and to love yourself unconditionally or, to not take the risk of loving yourself seriously and begin to self-destruct? What do you think? 💭
