La Tortuga island, also known as the Turtle Island is one of the 225 small islands of the Galápagos, which lies in the territory of Ecuador.
The crescent-shaped island is a collapsed volcano lies southeast of the largest island of the Galápagos- which is the Isla Isabela (swipe left) or the Isabela island (featured as our first story on February 13, 2019). Home to rich biodiversity (particularly bird species), the island is completely protected, thus you cannot disembark. But, you can visit and view the island and take pictures of its magnificence.
Galápagos islands or the archipelago of Columbus in the Pacific Ocean was made famous through the revolutionary works on natural selection, evolution by Charles Darwin.
But not many know that Galápagos islands do not include just a couple of islands- rather, the archipelago comprises 13 large sized islands, 6 medium sized islands and 225 small islands, distributed around the equator.
In fact, Galápagos is one of the only two archipelagos on Earth that have a land mass on both sides of the equator.
