Benagil is most famous for the sea cave located just around the corner from the beach. This cave has been featured in top destinations lists and "places you have to visit" all across the internet.
You can have it all in the Algarve: surf, sand, sun, castles, hiking trails, nightclubs, and food. Take a day to tour Portuguese wine country via motorcycle and sidecar when you're not at the beach. #travelwithaninsider 🌞 🍷

The Algarve region of Portugal hands down had the best views I’ve ever seen throughout my travels. Praia de Marinha was specifically one of my favs. It was nominated as 1 of the top 10 best beaches in Europe and I totally understand why. Surprisingly, it was not even as crowded as I imagined it to be. I couldn't get over how translucent and calm the sea was. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here are a few suggestions of other beautiful views for if you plan to visit the Algarve:
↠ Benagil Beach & Cave⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
↠ Ponta Da Piedade⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
↠ Algar Seco⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
↠ Camilo Beach
I’ve been super busy, so who knows when I’ll write a blog post about this trip 🤷🏽♀️ but in the mean time, I’ll leave some tips in my captions 🙂

Winter time... night we're going to have some strong wind gusts around 37knots and heavy rain. But last winter we already experienced 60 knots.... so what 💪👍...Normally the real danger comes from other not well anchored drifting boats... 😥
Hold the thumbs 🤗
What a catch! Guess what they brought us? Fish? No, they delivered my son Diego on our catamaran coming home from school 😂 . The elder kids have to visit the school on the continent but during the winter season there are only 2 ferries back to the island Culatra... consequently, they use to hop on one these fisher boats (often father, oncle, cousin...) on their way back👌 , so coool 😁⛵

Apart from its beautiful beach, Carvoeiro has other attractions that make this place unique ... We especially like Algar Seco, a natural amphitheater. You can enjoy of close some of the caves and sea corners that nature has created. The rocks form real windows to the sea, like A Boneca (The Doll) , where you can enjoy the sea...especially in the late afternoon 😎🌇
Who wants to go swimming here? 🙋🏼♀️
People raved so much about the Algarve in Portugal before I saw it for myself, and even though it didn’t end up being my favorite place in the country, it lived up to the hype. .
I spent an afternoon walking along the limestone cliffs, ducking into cute little coastal cafes when it started to rain to have a glass of vinho verde and snack on fresh calamari. I even did a boat tour to the famous Benagil Cave that is on every Google image search of the Algarve. .
One aspect that I loved about the Algarve is how many secret caves there are to discover along the coast (Benagil is definitely not one of them with how crowded it is now, although gorgeous in its own right). You could literally rent a kayak and find a different secluded hideaway every day if you wanted to . .
The only downside to this part of Portugal (Lagos specifically) is how touristy it has become, especially with young backpackers who love to party with 1€ shots. It wasn’t quite as bad as what I found on Bali’s main beaches back in 2013, where tourists basically got drunk all day, trashed the beaches, and didn’t make any effort to learn the local culture, but I could see it getting that way in a few year’s time.
With that said, there are still some more untouched parts of the Algarve. If you’re looking for a different side there are a variety of personalities to the many cities along the coast. And really, cruising along the Algarve coastline is one of the best road trips to take in Portugal, so you may as well stay in a few cities to experience all that the region has to offer. 🇵🇹🏖
