  • Oftentimes, when we think "therapist" we think "nervous breakdown." NEWSFLASH: nothing has to be "wrong" with you to see a therapist. Did you recently lose someone you love? Are you going through a stressful time in your life? Experiencing sad thoughts from out of the blue and don't know what to do? Just looking to boost your emotional IQ?

There is no shame in seeing a therapist, no matter how you're feeling in life. There are no "rules" that constitute when to see one. They're not just there for the bad, they're also there for the good, too. Seeing a therapist is the best thing I’ve ever done. Guess what? I’m five years strong and still going. Sometimes we need prayer and meditation, sometimes we a prescription, sometimes we need them all. #me ☝️🙋🏽‍♀️ Photo via @talieshatoday

  • Starting a private practice years ago, I was especially surprised by the stories of childhood neglect, dysfunction, and addiction from my “high functioning” clients.
.
.
“The walking wounded” said my former clinical supervisor. Amazing how stripping away the typical psycho-social stressors doesn’t always equate to mental health and emotional resilience.
.
.
Reading “Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting by in America” was an eye opener regarding the working poor. The image of the exhausted single mom working two jobs who loses it after a long day of re-folding and shelfing clothes at Target, goes home and smacks her kid for disrespecting her is permanently embedded in my memory bank (always put my stuff back on the shelves, too #everystoreevencostco).
.
.
No one is immune from stress, heartache or negative voices + kindness, thoughtfulness and compassion cost $0.00 🍃❤️🍃

  • Hey y’all! Check out my spin on mental health and New Years resolutions on Spin the Bottle’s podcast. Link to the show is in @ddspinthebottle bio. We talk about needing Bae’s passwords, why I do what I do, how to embrace life differently (and in a healthier way), and how to maintain discipline throughout the year and throughout life.
•
So you started 2019 with a BANG, huh? You tryna make sure it’s YOUR YEAR, huh? Well, we believe you will, IF you do the mental work (care) necessary to “Keep that Same Energy.” Soco Reynoso - @yourfavoritetherapist - joined us for a deeply insightful and entertaining conversation on how to make this year (and every year) one of our best...like for real for real. FAIR WARNING: You just might breathe easier after listening...We’d also love to introduce our first unofficial installation of Random Revelations...because we were all over the place, hunty!!! Thanks for lending us your ears!

  • Asset based thinking (or strengths based) vs Defect based thinking. .
.
.
.
.
👍🏾Asset based thinking: Being able to look at a problem (or any situation) and identify how your strengths (or the strengths of others) can be an effective solution.
.
.
.
.
.
.
👎🏾Defect based thinking: Being focused on the weaknesses of others (or yourself). Automatically assessing a problem from a negative lens. .
.
.
.
.
🌟By being self-aware and applying asset based thinking, you can begin to problem solve more productively and enthusiastically. You can build a stronger sense-of-self and maintain healthier relationships. ✨No one is perfect with this process, as defect thinking comes more naturally. I’m still working on this myself lol. ✨

  • So I had some pretty cool professional milestones last week that kind of reminded me of why I do what I do, and where my inner Leslie Knope has been hiding (as my Ann Perkins so helpfully pointed out, she’s been struggling a little, sort of like Bruce Banner trying to get his Hulk out in the last Avengers movie).⁣
⁣
I had my first clients with my new practice, I interviewed for a PhD program, as a former Active Minds chapter president I was invited to a short webinar to HEAR BRENE BROWN SPEAK *LIVE*, and Amy Blankson (my secondary professional idol under Brene Brown, and who I met at a conference last fall) commented on one of my posts on Instagram (that granted, I tagged her in). ⁣
⁣
But all of these steps were pretty awesome, and helped remind me why I started doing all of this and how much I’ve grown professionally. It reminded me where my priorities are, how much I’ve accomplished, but also how much road is left to go before I’m satisfied in my goals. I’ve been feeling overwhelmed and have missed a lot of opportunities for gratitude, but these things helped put all of it in perspective. ⁣
⁣
If you start to get bogged down in the tasks of the now, take a step back and admire your journey and the little victories. The things happening now are the things you prayed for and put your blood, sweat, and tears into. The goal isn’t the end, it’s the journey, failures and victories alike.

  • Today marks one year since I returned to the US after 7 months of traveling the world. It was without a doubt the greatest experience of my life thus far. Jumping on a plane every couple weeks to see a new country was literally a dream come true. •
•
From Bali to Thailand to Cambodia to the Philippines to Singapore to New Zealand to Hong Kong and Australia. I have truly never been happier.
•
•
I never thought I’d be the girl who left their job and jumped into the unknown...but there I was doing it. It was single handedly the most empowering experience I’ve had! It was the greatest adventure I’ve ever said “yes” to and it has altered me and the course of my life. •
•
I FREAKING DID IT Y’ALL. And now I know...I can do anything I want to do. You can too. You just have to figure it out and go for it. Here’s to saying more “yeses” to the big and scary things we want in life!!!

  • • DISTANCE THERAPY •
.
From the ancient redwoods of the north coast to the Joshua trees of the southern desert, I’ve got you covered for nature informed counseling services California. I’m so grateful for technology and the ways it helps us connect with one another across distances!
.
Now you can receive high quality nature informed psychotherapy in a context that is convenient for your busy schedule. This helps you avoid having to “start over” with a new provider, manage schedule changes effectively, and increase accountability. What’s not to love?
.
Life changes but therapy shouldn’t have to. 💜🏜💙

  • "Your Inner Circle"

Managing my inner circle is an aspect of self care that I did not use to practice. I felt bad - even unspiritual - about having to distance myself from certain people, even though their energy was bringing me down. I thought I was supposed to be spiritually strong enough to manage all types of energies from all types of people at all times, but the truth is we can't carry more than we can carry per time and sometimes the best way to manage certain people is by distancing yourself from them while still holding them in your heart in a place of love. Another way this is said is to "love them from a distance." Your inner circle should strengthen you, not poison you. Build you, not break you down. Encourage you, not exhaust you. Enliven you, not kill your morale.
Once I experienced a healthy inner circle, I knew I could never go back to the toxic, unsupportive, spirit-defeating circle I once had. My soul now knew what it meant to draw strength from friends.

The people we spend the most of our time with will shape us in some way. Amongst New Testament writers, Apostle Paul had the most to write about love, but even he had to concede that we have to be conscious of the kind of inner circle we keep. In 1 Corinthians 15:33, he writes: Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good character.” Precious souls, there is nothing unspiritual about consciously determining the kind of people that gain access to your inner circle. It is an act of self care.

  • Posted @withrepost • @alchemyofauthenticity It’s Wednesday again so you already know what that means...it’s my day to catch up on life! 🌟
Am I the only person who feels like I generally just function better when my room is clean and everything feels organized? I took this morning for myself and have already checked a ton of things off my to-do list (and maybe even watched some Netflix). Boring self care days are always worth it, never hesitate to take some time for yourself, never beat yourself up for relaxing when you have a lot to get done. Being in a better place mentally will always help you feel more prepared to take on tomorrow. 🙌🏼💯
