Arundel Castle, England 🏴-
Did you know? 🤔 William the Conqueror built this castle to protect the area from a French invasion and to guard the mouth of the River Arun. Several Kings have owned the castle over the centuries, including Henry I, Henry II and Richard I.-

Watzman, the 3rd highest mountain in Germany, rises behind the city of Berchtesgaden. The mountain is so unique in form. It was periodically hidden in cloud, but on this day I got a good clear view. Berchtesgaden itself is a lovely place to visit with plenty of tourist shops for those so inclined to such things. Bavaria is a beautiful region and I wished I had more opportunity to explore it's natural wonders. I can say I did get caught in a thunderstorm on a nearby mountain while hiking a trail, but I wasn't out on a nature hike.
My motivations for traveling have varied on different excursions. I was amidst historical research when I visited, following the footsteps of one who had journaled of the place at the end of WWII. One way to travel is to follow the historic path of another. So it was of me, tracking the path and locations mentioned in a paratrooper's account that included the final days of the war. I was following the footsteps of a close friend in doing so. It was not always easy to find and match locations, but it was well worth the effort and it was made much easier by some friends.
