Today's command line lesson: color customization of your terminal 🎨 Since I know how much we devs love customizing our tools, I'll show you how you can change the background and foreground colors of a terminal with just a single command! Here it is:
___

color 9f
___

That's it! This particular command will change the background color to Blue and the foreground (text) color to Bright White.
___

color - the color command. Use it alone or with parameters. If you use it with the color parameters, be sure to leave a space in between!💡Pro tip: if you run the color command by itself, it just resets the terminal to the default black background and white text.
>
>
{backgroundHex}{foregroundHex} - when used, the hex digits of the colors you are choosing. The first digit (9) is the background color and the second digit (f) is the foreground color. For these parameters, make sure there is no space between the first and second hex digits (like this: 9f).
___

There are some restrictions with color combinations though! You can only choose from the valid hex digits (A-F and 0-9) for your color combos. Type color /? to see the full list!
___ 🌟 Bonus: if you try to select the same color for both the background and foreground, the terminal won't let you! It just sets the ERRORLEVEL to 1 and won't make the change since your terminal would be unreadable. How thoughtful!

  • Happy New Year everyone! -
-
Right now is a time where everyone’s excited about their resolutions and making themselves better, but by january 6th, this excitement and motivation has quickly gone away. -
-
Here’s a few ways to make this motivation last throughout the new year: -
-
1. Make realistic goals, if you didn’t go for a run once in 2018, don’t make your resolution for 2019 be to run a marathon. Resolutions like that are easy to ignore and forget about. Pick resolutions that are truly important and realistic for you so you’re spending your time on something plausible. -
2. Create a schedule like your resolution is a work project. Set “due” dates and benchmarks for yourself to keep the excitement about your resolution going. (Ex: Your resolution is to read more, set a benchmark to read 100 pages every week.) Setting up smaller mini-goals within your resolution is actually statistically proven to help you stay at it! -
-
3. Set time aside for it first thing in the morning. It isn’t realistic to think that everyone has the opportunity to work on their resolution first thing in the morning, but in a perfect world it’s the best time to get something like this done. If you want to read more, or workout, or learn a new language, scheduling it first thing in the morning will ensure that you aren’t putting it off and then inevitably skipping it. -
-
4. You don’t need a new year to make positive changes. If you want to be productive or improve an area of yourself it’s important to remember that the new year really doesn’t change anything, it won’t create a sudden newfound energy in you or automatically remove all the excuses you’ve been making. This is 100% up to you to do and doesn’t require party hats, countdowns, or fireworks. If you want to see a change start when you make that decision, and you’re ready to stick with it, not just because of the new year. -
-
-
Hope you enjoyed these tips! I’d love to hear any tips you all have for keeping resolutions! -

Typescript FTW 🤓
➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖
🌆 Took this pic earlier in the evening, some minutes before merging another huge branch of mine 😁 obviously the sky in Hamburg was celebrating with me 🎉 Portugal was awesome but I am back in business!
➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖
⚒ This week’s main task was about rewriting a NodeJS API to Typescript. Along with it, I also introduced a better structure with models and controllers, swagger docs, Mocha unit tests, TSLint and NYC code coverage reporting.
➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖
🤩 Actually I found the result really satisfying and interesting - to be honest it looks more like a Spring backend than JS - that’s why I am going to prepare a blog post regarding the topic 🤗

👉🏻 How is your week going?
