Ellen Gerhart, land owner, retired teacher, activist and mama bear.
My first introduction to the Mariner East story was with Ellen Gerhart on her property in Huntington, Pennsylvania. Ellen and her daughter, Elise, have consistently fought Sunoco's plans to install the pipeline through their property, a 20-acre plot of rehabilitated forest and home to wetland creatures and the occasional black bear. Their fight had taken them to jail, courts and all across the corporate footprint of Energy Transfer Partners. Here, Ellen stands in silent prayer with other homeowner-activists in Delaware County, PA, prior to a public protest in the area.
