WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY MAKING PROGRESS?
.
Making progress might be different for everyone. For me, it has changed from weighing less to getting stronger, to barely completing my weekly workouts, and make healthier choices.
I have gone from setting goals like being able to run 7-8 miles 2-3x a week last summer to just practicing yoga everyday (if possible) now.
.
TBH, it is disappointing to not see visible changes after a point, to not see more muscles, to not see any physical progress. And I have been there! I am still there some days. I feel like I am working hard, but my eating has been all over the place, especially on the weekends.
.
But this year, I am trying to be extra kind on myself for missing a Monday, for taking 3 rest days a week, for just watching Netflix when I don’t feel like working out, for enjoying treats with my husband when I meet him after two weeks.
.
Do I not wanna see myself become stronger? Do I not wanna see more muscles on myself? Of course I do. But is it more important than my sleep? Is it more important than my time with my husband? Is it more important than my academics? NO! Not really!
.
So yes, achieving a physical goal like pull-ups or headstands are definitely a great way to push yourself, but LISTENING TO YOUR BODY, respecting what it needs is what makes all the difference✨
.
When I feel I am not making enough physical progress, I try to take a step back and see how far I have made it. Be proud of yourself. Be proud of the challenges you have faced. Be proud of your efforts and keep working on bettering yourself👊🏻

Here’s a great way to understand what movements to focus on depending how many days a week you go the gym to train!💪🏼

If you opt to train more often it is important to vary the training loads and reps so you don’t crash and tax yourself to an injury.
.
When you only train 3 times a week you must do a push/pull/legs. There is no ins and out about it. You can not only do push exercises because your posture will be in jeopardy, and your overall development will lack (chicken legs) and you won’t feel as great ignoring half of your body(endorphins). Pull days, and leg days are far more important than your push days for overall well-being so plan accordingly.
.
If you train everyday 7 days a week, you will see results with more variety of reps and with more sprints(sports) in the mix!🔥👍🏼
.
Days off don’t really exist, there is always something you can do, so do yourself a favour and remove that word from your training vocabulary. The less you speak it into existence the less excuses you will come up with. We literally sit or are at rest most of the 24 hour day so training hard for 1-2 hours a day is normal and one day will be a norm!!!
.
If you have not been seeing results in the last year of training you are either not training enough throughout the week, your eating too much or not enough, you prioritize other people more than yourself, and/or you truly don’t care that much🙋🏻‍♂️👌🏼

  • Confidence in the gym is always something that I struggle with. Stepping out of my comfort zone is always a mission for me and when I do, I feel like people are staring at me!
In classes, I’m fine but stepping into the weight section always scares me. But to get the results you want, you have to push yourself! 💪🏻 And I’m so glad I did!! 💁🏻‍♀️ 🔥 Yesterday’s leg session 🔥 ✨ 3 x 5 squat cleans

  • Yesterday at the gym, a lady I hadn't seen or met before came up to me and asked me if I was a coach there.

  • Haha maybe not yet but working on it. PB for legs this week heaviest squats Sunday and today I did heaviest deadlift at 70kg so over my body weight and 80kg leg press 😊

  • Another green dress update. This is always going to be my transformation dress. I never did get to wear it as a well fitting dress. But so good to look back and  see how far I have come.
If you are starting out on your diet and fitness journey I urge you to take the photos because they can often show us the progress far better than the mirror or the scales.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Know that each wise food choice or each gym session or walk if done regularly will get you results.💪💪💪💪
For new followers who may not know the beginning of my progress story... ❤️ This is the sum of my efforts from September until now.  Calorie deficit, gym, keeping my steps up daily with over 12 or 13k a day average , using the pool to do exercises and now learning to swim too. Working myself up to climbing those cats ladder 239 steps 9 times up and 9 times down, and reading books to help my mindset. Making new friends within JSA and outside of it in the local area too and sharing my journey with you guys here.. All this contributed to the progress you see in those photos.

Whether you think you can or whether you think you can't, you are right.

I believed this time I would do it. So I used every ounce of determination to get it done and still do. It takes time. It takes committment and sometimes it takes putting yourself as priority but do what needs to be done to get yourself healthy and be around longer for those you love and who love you.

Fat or not I always had a zest for life laughs and people and that has not changed but my energy for it has and I have a joy for life now.  Thanks to James Smith Academy and my own determination to get the weight down.
