  • Hauntingly beautiful.. a wildfire blazing inside Glacier National Park from this past summer (2018). For years and years, I had always dreamed of photographing a wildfire. After many failed attempts.. this one came up at the most unexpected time #whptiming #whpuptome

  • This March I will be a featured artist at the Grounded Climate Summit in Sonoma, CA founded by Julia Jackson of Jackson Family Wines. Grounded is a two-day event gathering climate action leaders from across a wide interdisciplinary spectrum in one retreat to discuss, present, and share ideas on decisive climate action. Everyone from a former president of Iceland, to forest and wildfire ecology experts, to authors and noted environmentalists will be in attendance. There will also be discussion on the mental health impacts on individuals affected by wildfire and climate change in general. Grounded is supported by the Social Impact Fund, the Leonard DiCaprio Foundation, and other organizations dedicated to leaving behind a habitable world for humankind. Julia founded the event after her friends, family, and colleagues were devastated by the Tubbs Fire and 2017 Wine Country Fire Siege. Since then we’ve already had that deadly and destructive mega fire eclipsed by the Camp Fire. Amidst a national conversation about climate action, The Green New Deal, etc., I’m glad to be contributing to this event in a small way.
I’m excited to attend and connect with everyone, and share my photography prints and experience with Terra Flamma on site. More announcements on the way! #groundedsummit #climatesummit #climateaction #terraflamma #fineart #photoexhibit #sonoma #santarosa #santarosastrong #sonomastrong #recovery #wildfire #calfire #lnu @juliakjackson @jj_osbun @leonardodicapriofdn @groundedsummit #vineyard #wine #norcal #vines #winery

  • Excited to announce that I will be the keynote speaker at the National Forest Foundation’s annual fundraiser in Greenwich, CT in May! The NFF is the nonprofit partner of the US Forest Service chartered by Congress to "engage Americans in promoting the health and public enjoyment of our National Forests.” The NFF does critical work on our national forests by supporting fuels management, post-fire reseeding, public education/engagement, and all manners of conservation related to forest and grassland ecosystem health. Looking forward to sharing the latest images and experiences from my Terra Flamma wildfire project and connecting it to work the NFF engages in.

I’ll be spending some time both in NYC and Washington DC on this trip in May, and am looking forward to connecting with those passionate about the confluence of forest health, climate, and wildfire. One of my goals for 2019 is to keep sharing the work from Terra Flamma on the road, both in photography exhibits and presentations. If you’re interested in me sharing the Terra Flamma images/stories and are a stakeholder in the wildfire/conservation world, don’t hesitate to reach out! Super excited for this one! - SP @nationalforests

  • Learning to Count (Fourmile) is a large-scale place-based sculpture in which a whimsical abacus represents statistics of the 2010 Fourmile Canyon wildfire. The abacus reflects the acres burned, not only in numerical form, but through its use of Ponderosa Pine from the burn zone which stands as a physical witness to the disaster. .
